More Coiling Fun...
Well, so my two days off. I spent the first one in bed, dealing with some hybrid allergy/cold thing that's much better now. Sad to miss one of Portland's rare sunny days, but every now and then, my body forces my brain to stop moving.
While laid up, I noodled around some more with the coiling. This is a pendant, coiled on some bulky rug yarn, wrapped with some lovely wispy yarn with little metallic inserts that I picked up in Vancouver.
I like the result. I used a different stitch technique than I showed in my tutorial - this time, I stitched the coils together in a figure-8 pattern, which made the stitches invisible.
Here's one with the regular stitch pattern, for comparison. The texture is interesting, but I think you lose the overall impact.
. . . And of course, coils don't have to be round! I made several attempts on a freeform bracelet based on this idea, but it needs more development. I think this could be a good basis for earrings, too.
Today was a true day off. I took in some, ahem, highbrow entertainment, played both Galaga and air hockey, walked in the sunshine, got some great news in the mail, and went downtown for a celebratory dinner. Now we're off to listen to some awesome CBS Radio Mystery Theater from the 70's.
Hope your weekend is going splendidly!
